Pastor Karen Horan

 

My name is Rev. Karen Horan, Pastor of Gruene UMC. (Most people call me Pastor Karen or just plain Karen!)
My husband, Bill, and I grew up in San Antonio, but we have lived all over Texas since we got married in 1986. I received my Bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas, as an English major and a dance minor. I taught high school and middle school English and dance for 10 years before my call to ministry. In 2001, I began my studies at Perkins School of Theology in Dallas and received my Masters of Divinity in December 2004.
Bill, myself and our two children, Tyler and Ashley, moved back to San Antonio in May 2004. I became the associate pastor at First UMC, New Braunfels in June 2005 and had the joy of planting of Gruene UMC in September 2006.
God has had me on a marvelous journey!  I have a wonderful husband, two beautiful children now in college, and Gruene United Methodist Church is the best appointment anyone could ask for.
Now that you know a little about me and my family, I hope you will join us so I can get to know you better. Currently, we have a Pastor's Coffee at least once a month. Details can be found in our Sunday morning bulletins or on our News page.  That is my time to get to know you better...I hope you will join us soon!

Sharon Boland - Children's/Nursery Director
 
Sharon is a wife, mother of two grown sons and grandmother to Jack and Emily. Her hobbies are reading, sewing and quilting. Sharon's haven for piece (peace) is her sewing room where she can forget about the cares of the world and lose herself in her fabric stash and the creative process of cloth, thread and needle. She is involved with Project Linus and Threads of Love, two non-profit organizations who cater to the needs of children and preemie babies. "I've been involved with San Antonio area churches for over twenty years," she says, "and have found that children really are my passion. My calling in the way of mission has been making clothing for preemie babies and blankets for children in hospitals. Both these orgainzations offer this outlet for me."
